Our History

The Grupo HPA Saúde is now part of CUF, dates back to 1996, with the opening of what was then the Hospital Particular do Algarve, in the town of Alvor—the group’s very first unit. Since its foundation, it has been committed to providing specialised healthcare, combining clinical excellence, innovation and close proximity to local communities.

Over more than three decades of sustained growth, the Grupo HPA Saúde has established itself as one of the leading private healthcare providers in the south of the country, expanding its geographical presence across the Algarve, Madeira and Alentejo. This evolution has led to the creation of differentiated units, enabling access to high-quality healthcare close to citizens and their specific needs.

The integration of the Grupo HPA Saúde into the CUF network represents far more than a mere change of identity. It symbolises the union of a history of proximity and trust built over decades with the experience, scale, capacity for innovation and leadership of CUF, the largest private healthcare provider in Portugal.

With over eight decades of experience, CUF currently operates an integrated network of 66 hospitals, clinics and health centres, working in conjunction with home care services and digital channels. Through the daily commitment of more than 20,000 employees, CUF ensures a comprehensive response based on clinical quality, innovation and continuity of care, supporting over 1.6 million clients nationwide.

CUF is also the most renowned and trusted healthcare brand in Portugal. Belonging to this national network reinforces the healthcare response in the Algarve, Madeira and Alentejo, fostering knowledge sharing among professionals, access to specialised clinical resources and the adoption of high standards of care.

This evolution continues a history built on dedication, trust and commitment to people's health, creating new opportunities to meet community needs and contribute to improving health and quality of life in each region.
